Woman arrested for beating elderly parents with cane, oxygen tanks in Utah hotel
(KUTV) — A woman was arrested for abusing and assaulting her elderly parents in Midvale, Utah, on Saturday with her mother's cane and oxygen tanks.
Anne Cockrell, 42, was arrested with two counts of aggravated abuse toward a disabled or elderly person and two counts of aggravated assault.
On Saturday, a Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputy responded to a domestic call at a Midvale hotel. The suspect - identified as Cockrell - was located away from the scene.
According to the probable cause statement, Cockrell had come into the hotel room where her parents - both over the age of 65 - were staying and started beating her mother. She hit her with her own cane and oxygen tanks that were in the room.
Cockrell's father then came into the room and tried to break up the fight; however, she then turned to her father and began hitting him with her hands, along with her mother's cane and oxygen tanks.
Then, she poured Tide laundry detergent on both her parents in an attempt to hurt them and telling both of them she wanted to kill them, according to the probable cause statement.
Cockrell's father was reported to have lacerations and bruising on his arms, and there was also blood found on his shirt and arms. The probable cause statement did not mention what kind of injuries the mother suffered.
She was then booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
