(KUTV) — A woman died and a young boy was seriously burned and suffering smoke inhalation after a log home burned up in Draper early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 12:48 a.m., dispatch received a call of a house fire at 13923 S. Arrow Creek Dr.
A family of five, consisting of the father, mother, two children ages 6 and 10, along with the grandmother, was inside.
According to fire officials, the flames spread quickly, which made matters worse for the family.
The grandmother was later found to have died in the fire, and the 6-year-old boy suffered serious burns and smoke inhalation and flown to Primary Children's Hospital. A police officer and firefighter were also treated for heat exhaustion due to the high temperatures overnight.
Officials told 2News that the area was under construction and a nearby hydrant wasn't working, adding to the difficulties of tackling the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
