(KUTV) — Another truck has crashed into a Garden City building after failing to stop at the intersection of Highway 89 and Bear Lake Blvd. This is at least the fifth such crash in two years.
Tuesday's crash was a concrete pumper truck, the Utah Highway Patrol reports. Witnesses told troopers the truck's brakes "appeared to be on fire" before it crashed into Lighthouse Landing Gift Shop.
The driver was taken to the hospital in Logan with non-life-threatening injuries.
A runaway truck ramp is currently under construction after the Utah Department of Transportation heard concerns from city residents and the mayor about the intersection's dangers.
The $5 million ramp project will be built where the highway comes into Garden City in northwestern Rich County.
UDOT is also installing a new traffic signal at the problem intersection.
In August of 2019, runaway trucks crashed into the same Garden City condo complex two times in one week.
In October 2018, a semi-truck driver was killed when the brakes on his rig overheated, causing him to go out of control and smash into a building.
