Utah is the nation's 9th most educated state, according to a study by WalletHub.

Utah is the most progressive state when it comes to both racial gaps and gender gaps in education, taking the top spot in both categories.

The racial gap metric specifically measures the difference between the percentage of black bachelor’s degree holders and the percentage of their white counterparts., while the gender gap metric specifically measures the difference between the percentage of female bachelor’s degree holders and the percentage of their male counterparts.

Utah was also third in the country for the average quality of university education.

The Beehive State cracked the top 10, just ahead of Washington, and just behind Minnesota, but what factors were used by WalletHub to determine which states were "most educated?"

"In this study, WalletHub examined the key factors of a well-educated population: educational attainment, school quality and achievement gaps between genders and races," the WalletHub study states. "We compared all 50 states across 20 total metrics grouped into two categories. The data set ranges from share of adults aged 25 and older with at least a high school diploma to average university quality to gender gap in educational attainment."
