Several school buses with children on board trapped in flood waters

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) - According to the Sumner County Sheriff office three different buses with children on board became trapped in floodwaters in Sumner County.

Officials tell WZTV just before 6:30 a.m. a school bus became trapped on Buck Perry Road near Mt. Vernon Road that bus had 17 students on board.

This bus had a mix of students including kids from North Sumner Elementary, Westmoreland Middle and high school. Those students are safe.

Two other buses were trapped on Rouges Fork Road near Hogback Ridge and Campbell Hollow Road near Butler Mill Road.

Crews were still working to remove the children from the school bus on Buck Perry Road at the time of this post.

The Butler Mill Road bus is number 668. The students are okay and are waiting for the water to recede.

Radar indicated thunderstorms that produced heavy rain are ending, but the threat of Flash Flooding will remainas the runoff moves through area creaks and streams. As much as 5 to 7 inches of rain has fallen in a short amount of time, and dangerous Flash Flooding is occurring with many roads closed and water rescues occurring.
