BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — Illinois State Police responded to a crash late last night involving a semi truck and school bus that resulted in two fatalities.
Police said the semi truck was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes and crashed head-on with the school bus on Interstate 74.
The students on board were Normal West High School's Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Team, returning home on the bus from a game at the time of the crash.
The driver of the semi truck was killed, as well as 72-year-old Charles Crabtree of Normal, Illinois, who volunteered with the basketball team. The truck driver has only been identified as a 34-year-old man from Iowa.
All of the students sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
