SEATTLE -- A Seattle police dog followed a suspected burglar's scent on Monday and found the man relaxing in a backyard hot tub.
Two witnesses called 911 at around 3 p.m. after hearing a home security alarm in the 2400 block of East Helen Street, according to police.
The witnesses saw two men leaving the home and used their cell phones to snap photos of the alleged burglars. The suspects were gone by the time police arrived, but officers began searching the neighborhood using the cell phone pictures for reference,.
Police soon tracked down one of the suspects, a 20-year-old man, but they lost track of the second man. That's when the department called in police dog Blitz and his handler, officer Jake Briskey.
Blitz quickly picked up on the suspect's scent and followed it to a home in the 2500 block of East Denny Way, where officers found the second suspect relaxing in a backyard hot tub.
When he heard Blitz barking, the 18-year-old suspect climbed out of the tub and surrendered to police. Police summed up the incident on Twitter, saying "K9 Blitz catches burglar taking a shvitz."
Both suspects were booked into King County Jail for investigation of burglary. The 18-year-old suspect also had two outstanding warrants for possession of a stolen vehicle.
