Utah and BYU going to NCAA Volleyball tournament

Utah and BYU are both heading back to the NCAA Women's Volleyball tournament

(KUTV) - The Utes and Cougars are both heading back to the postseason.

The NCAA announced on Sunday that both Utah and BYU were selected into the 2017 NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship, which begins on Thursday. Both teams earned one of the top 16 seeds and will host first and second round games on their home courts.

Utah earned the 11th overall seed and will host first round games on Thursday. The Utes will take on Cleveland State in the first round at 7pm on Thursday while High Point University and Purdue University will play in the other matchup up at the Huntsman Center. The winners will play on Friday. This is the Utes' second straight trip to the tournament and their fourth appearance in the last five years. It will be the third time ever that the Utes have hosted the first two rounds, with the last time happening in 2005.

The Cougars are the 13th overall seed for the third straight year as they'll host first round games on Friday. The Cougars will take on American in the first round at 7pm while the other matchup will see Kennesaw State take on Oregon with the winners playing on Saturday down in Provo. BYU will try to make it to the regional semifinals for the sixth straight year, after making it that far in the tournament the last five seasons.
